A sad day

Today a friend and co-worker died. The whole thing is so awful. Sue was a breast cancer survivor who had finished her chemo and treatments several months ago and was doing well except the past few weeks. She was generally not feeling well and having some pain issues I guess. She was admitted to our hospital (on her OWN unit) last night but very unexpectedly coded and died early this morning. Other friends and co-workers were the ones to work on her until all hope for resuscitation had past. She had fought and suffered SO much to get through her breast cancer and was finally getting back on her feet with life and then to go so unexpectedly! She has been a single mother for many years and has two sons who still live at home. She lives near me and I've been to her house a number of times. I've known her for 8 years. She was one of my preceptors and mentors when I first graduated and started on the intermediate unit. She was truly THEE pillar of knowledge and wisdom in her area. Our hospital will be a different place without her. I will miss you Susie!!

I'm so sorry, for her family and for all of you who miss her. It seems so unfair.
